The risk of cooking outdoors shouldn’t ruin the fun, so keep in mind the following guidelines to reduce the risk of getting food poisoning. This is a very important tip, especially if you are going out for a barbeque; keep all meats and other perishable food in a cooling box in ice and only take each item out when you are ready to use it. Don’t pack more food than you need. Keep raw meat and poultry away from ready to eat food, like vegetables. Don’t use the same cooking utensils that you used to prepare raw meat, for preparing ready to eat foods, and always wash your hands before handling ready to cook foods. Keep all the food well covered, both before and after cooking, to protect it from insects, pets and dust. For safe cooking, light the barbecue ahead of time and don’t start cooking until the charcoal is glowing red with a powdery grey surface. Keep an eye on the food at all times while on the grill and turn the food occasionally, burnt food is neither tasty nor healthy.
